Overview
Written with the support of the Bloody Sunday Families, the play dramatises the experiences of family members and witnesses during The Saville Inqury (1998 – 2010), the public investigation into the killing of 13 people by the British Army on 30th January 1972 (known as Bloody Sunday). Duggan based the script on his experience of the Inquiry’s hearings at the Guildhall in Derry, reimagining the language of the testimonies ‘so that something of the greater human experience might be made public’ (Duggan, Plays in a Peace Process 2008, p.80). The play was first produced by Sole Purpose Production at The Playhouse in Derry on 31st January 2002. The director was Dave Duggan, the shadow film was by Jan Vaclav Caspers, and the compary was Jackie Duddy, Caoimhe Farren, and Sarah Wray. It was later adapted for Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) in 2003 and in 2002 it received a revival at the Playhouse to mark 25 years of Sole Purpose Productions and the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday
